Replacement of Decentralized Electric Heating by Air Conditioning Units in Residential Buildings

Heating Technology

Measure Goal

The goal is to estimate the electricity savings triggered by the renovation of a fixed resistance heating (electric heating) in residential buildings by replacing it with fixed reversible split or multi-split air conditioning units.

Examples and Scenarios

5.0 Rp./kWh
0.1 Rp./kWh10.0 Rp./kWh
Scenario A
Savings

Replacement of a decentralized electric heating system in a two-family house with a 6-room and a 2-room apartment

77'100
kWh

eligible kWh, accumulated over the measure's lifetime

Funding contribution
CHF 3’855

Inputs

Erstwohnung 5+ Zimmer (GEAK C), Zweitwohnung 2 Zimmer (GEAK C)

Scenario B
Savings

Replacement of a decentralized electric heating system in a single-family house (4-room apartment)

55'400
kWh

eligible kWh, accumulated over the measure's lifetime

Funding contribution
CHF 2’770

Inputs

Erstwohnung 4 Zimmer (GEAK C)

Requirements

Only measures that meet the requirements of the Energy Ordinance (SR 730.01; EnV) can be credited. The additional requirements for the technical characteristics and for the implementation of the measure are set out in Table 1.

Old systemNew system
TechnologyFixed electric, electric storage and electric underfloor single-room heaters within the scope of Annex 1.18 EnEVFixed reversible split or multi-split air conditioners (maximum 2 outdoor units per building) within the scope of Annex 1.13 EnEV
Efficiency class-A++ or better
Building categoryResidential, single-family house
Altitude above sea level1,200 m or lower
Building envelopeEnergy efficiency class D or better
Thermal protectionThe solar-shading requirements according to SIA 180 (2014) must be met.
ImplementationThe replacement and commissioning of the new system must be carried out by a qualified specialist or company.
DisposalThe consumption-relevant components of the old devices may not continue to be operated within Switzerland. Proper disposal or export must be demonstrable on request.

Proof of compliance

Compliance with the requirements must be demonstrated by the following documents. The documents listed in Table 2 are an integral part of the proof of measure implementation.

  • 1.Explanation (PDF format, max. 2 A4 pages) of how it is ensured that the replaced devices were properly disposed of (e.g. by means of declarations, disposal items on contractor invoices, etc.).
  • 2.Invoice documents (PDF, PNG or JPEG format)
  • 3.GEAK building energy certificates or a brief explanation of the CO₂ calculator input data (PDF format)

Calculation Formulas

Cumulative Electricity Savings

ΔEeco = (Eold - Enew) × feco × Ns

The cumulative electricity savings result from the difference between the electricity consumption of the old and new state, multiplied by the reduction factor and the standard effective duration.

Annual Electricity Consumption

Ex,i = (fP,i/η_x) × fR × (Qli0 + ΔQli × a) × (1 + (9.4 - θ_e,avg) × 0.06 K⁻¹) × AE

The annual electricity consumption depends on the annual heat demand of the apartments in the residential building and the utilization rate of the heat generator.

Part of the EFFEL programme

Standardised measures are one of two measure types in the EFFEL programme (efficiency improvements by electricity suppliers, Art. 46b EnG). They follow a predefined SFOE catalogue with fixed savings values.
