Replacement of Hot Water Circulation Pumps in Buildings

Heating Technology

Measure Goal

The goal is to estimate the electricity savings triggered by replacing hot water circulation pumps in buildings with more efficient and smaller models.

Examples and Scenarios

5.0 Rp./kWh
0.1 Rp./kWh10.0 Rp./kWh
Scenario A
Savings

Replacement of a hot water circulation pump in a multi-family building

Variable je nach Gebäudegröße
kWh

eligible kWh, accumulated over the measure's lifetime

Inputs

Länge der Zirkulationsleitungen oder Energiebezugsfläche

Requirements

Only measures that meet the requirements of the Energy Ordinance (SR 730.01; EnV) can be credited. The additional requirements for the technical characteristics and for the implementation of the measure are set out in Table 1.

Old systemNew system
Energy efficiency (according to EnEV)-Wet-rotor circulation pump with Q < 1.8 m³/h: EEI ≤ 18 Wet-rotor circulation pump with Q ≥ 1.8 m³/h: EEI ≤ 17 Water pump with motor: MEI ≥ 0.7 (with IE4 motor) Q = nominal flow rate
Sizing-The rated electrical power P1 of the new circulation pump must be sized to the standard heating load (and not the installed heat-generator capacity) of the group or building.
Thermal insulation-The heat-retaining parts must be provided with thermal insulation in accordance with clause 5.3 of SIA 385/1:2020.
ImplementationThe replacement and commissioning of the new system must be carried out by a qualified specialist or company.
DisposalThe consumption-relevant components of the old devices may not continue to be operated within Switzerland. Proper disposal or export must be demonstrable on request.

Proof of compliance

Compliance with the requirements must be demonstrated by the following documents. The documents listed in Table 2 are an integral part of the proof of measure implementation.

  • 1.Explanation (PDF format, max. 2 A4 pages) of how it is ensured that the replaced devices were properly disposed of (e.g. by means of declarations, disposal items on contractor invoices, etc.).
  • 2.Invoice documents (PDF, PNG or JPEG format)
  • 3.Images/photos of the rating plates of the old devices and the new installation (PDF, PNG or JPEG format)

Calculation Formulas

Cumulative Electricity Savings

ΔEeco = (Eold - Enew) × feco × Ns

The cumulative electricity savings result from the difference between the electricity consumption of the old and new state, multiplied by the reduction factor and the standard effective duration.

Annual Electricity Consumption

Ex = ton × (ft,100% × Ė_100%,x + ft,75% × Ė_75%,x + ft,50% × Ė_50%,x + ft,25% × Ė_25%,x)

The annual electricity consumption is calculated based on the electrical power consumption at different partial loads and the annual operating hours.

Part of the EFFEL programme

Standardised measures are one of two measure types in the EFFEL programme (efficiency improvements by electricity suppliers, Art. 46b EnG). They follow a predefined SFOE catalogue with fixed savings values.
